Steve Earle: "Someday (live)"

I've posted a video for the studio version of this, but here's Steve Earle doing it live in concert:

Ye Olde Podcaster bows to the holy trinity of country songs: Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today," and the immortal "Ring of Fire" (Johnny Cash OR June Carter Cash, can't go wrong either way). But this one's a mighty fine contender.

And apparently Shawn Colvin covered it. Ye Olde Podcaster MUST get his hands on a copy of that.

Steve Earle: "Goodbye's All We've Got"

Hard to believe this song was off his first solo album, the 1986 classic Guitar Town. It seems a lot more sophisticated than what you'd expect off a freshman release. Not sure when this performance was filmed, but I'd recognize the Austin City Limits set anywhere.

No click-to-buy links on this one. For one, people seem to be clicking but not buying -- or putting things in their iTunes carts for later use, which doesn't get me any commission, so what's the point -- but also, it seems inappropriate with this song, on this day, at this time and place, and I mean that more existentially than geographically.

Big announcement coming in next week's episode 100 (which, again, is not actually the 100th episode -- that was episode 93, I think).

Episode 99: 99 Theses

And now, the single most pretentious thing I have done in my misspent life. And considering I was an English major and philosophy minor in college, that's saying a lot. In between the songs today: 99 theses on various aspects of life, from politics to sex to religion to commerce.

Today's episode is tagged Explicit. I don't use a ton of profanity, but the material DOES touch on adult themes. Something to offend and anger just about everyone, but hopefully other things to amuse as well.

Here's what you'll hear today (direct download here):

Manu Chao: "Politik Kills (Prince Fatty remix)"
Frederic Chopin: "Nocturne in C# Minor"
Krista Detor: "Lay Him Down"
Steven Charles Cecil: "Barely Alive in Baltimore"
Kenneth Makuakane: "Landing In Love/Pae I Ke One"
Gustav Bertha: "Song for the Broken Hearted (demo)"
The Crowd: "Fantasy Girl"
aJt: "Rock Bollywood"
Sharif: "Just Another"
Malamondos: "What You Got On"

Tracks 1-3 were found at the IODA Promonet and may be downloaded below. Track 6 was provided by the artist, and everything else was found at the Podsafe Music Network.
